Moreover, I learned different words and expressions in Tajik, Farsi and Hindi with its various dialects. “It was a strange and unique experience for me – I felt that Jamatkhanas were places where all Ismailis spoke Arabic, but this was not so in India or in London, where devotional literature were ginans sung not in Arabic but in Urdu or Gujarati. In Shugnan, the day before Navroz, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much! Many Tajiks had been invited by the Government and the AKDN for an outdoor concert. An intimate candlelight meal was followed by deep discussions atop a mountain as we witnessed the awakening of the new day. “We danced on the street to traditional music, sampled local cuisine and enjoyed meeting one another. Nagji recollected that in Tajikistan, an entire village had dressed in their finest clothing and lined up for two hours to receive the delegates: In other words, it is our faith, and not culture, which became the primary mode of identification.”Īs they visited places of historical significance to Ismailis, the delegates experienced a warm welcome from their brothers and sisters, who generously shared their hospitality. As Ismaili Muslims, our faith provides a common vision that allows us to look beyond our individual cultures. Reflecting on having met the other delegates for the first time, Fattoum noted: “Each one of us had achieved a kind of balance between ethno-cultural identity and religious identity. “We all chose to define ourselves in terms of multiple identities including ethno-cultural and religious identities.” Moez Visramįrom its outset, the HDP challenged the delegates' notion of identity: “I found that it was very difficult for us to define ourselves,” commented Iman Fattoum in London as she began her 18-day journey. The journey provided a springboard for experiential learning and individual reflection: “Throughout the trip, it was in these collisions of souls where our stories were shared and our thoughts transformed,” said Ashnoor Nagji, a delegate on the Tajikistan – Afghanistan route. All of the routes culminated in London, where delegates shared their experiences with participants who had travelled along other routes. Setting off from the United Kingdom in March 2008, they each travelled along one of five routes: Egypt – India, India – Egypt, Syria – East Africa, East Africa – Syria, or Tajikistan – Afghanistan. The highlight of the HDP was the travel component, where delegates visited specific historic monuments, heritage sites and AKDN projects. One-hundred fourteen delegates from 19 countries were selected from among 450 applicants aged 25 – 35 to participate in the inaugural cycle of the programme. Through the Heritage Discovery Programme (HDP) – an international programme established as part of the commemoration of Mawlana Hazar Imam's Golden Jubilee – they explored the physical, intellectual and spiritual dimensions of centuries of Ismaili legacy. ![]() ![]() When you’re looking for underwear at the gym, it’s important to look for a stellar pair that incorporates four-way stretch, as well as moisture-wicking and anti-odor technology. Most of the best men’s underwear on the market that you’ll hear guys rave about will have modal in its fabrication. It’s lightweight, has a silky feel to it, and also is shrink-resistant and moisture-wicking. Made from beech tree, this incredibly soft fabric feels like nothing your junk has ever felt before. However, a little spandex in the fabric helps for movement with easy and extra comfort.Īnother great option is modal or micromodal fabric. Wicks away moisture to keep you dry and cool. Ultra soft cotton spandex blend allows for flexible movement. Hanes Ultimate stretch boxer briefs are available in sizes 2XB to 4XB. Nylon is moisture-wicking and the fabric won’t pill or stretch out. Keep cool and dry throughout the day with our moisture wicking cotton blend stretch fabric. If you’re looking for something a little more modern, go for a blend with nylon and some spandex. While cotton is breathable and easy to care for, a pair that’s 100% cotton tends to lose shape over time and can give you that swamp ass feeling. Cotton, nylon, rayon-what’s the best one? Then you look at the fabric description and that can only confuse things more. When you’re looking for a new pair of men’s underwear online, it can be hard to tell how it’s going to feel when so many of them look the same in photographs. All we want to do is link to them, to send them traffic. We think it’s perfectly fine for Google to control access to the scans it’s made. We’ve railed against OCLC for its desire to lock up book metadata.īut we’re not railing here. Our commitment to open data is long-standing. In limited tests I’ve found it picks up around 90% of LibraryThing titles. Our bookmarklet works by transcending ISBNs, using what LibraryThing knows about titles, authors and dates to fetch other editions of a work. Call us naive, but we aren’t going to be able to “pretend Google isn’t there.” And we aren’t convinced that Google is going to create the sort of robust cataloging and social networking features that LibraryThing has. Being able to search your own books is useful, and LibraryThing members should be able to do it. We WANT people to use Google Book Search. The Google-kills-LibraryThing meme has another dimension. Of these a high percentage are only “limited preview” or “no preview.” Then there are the books publishers have explicitly removed from Google Book Search. Most of their books come from a handful of academic libraries, and academic libraries don’t have the same editions regular people have. Google just doesn’t have the sort of books that regular people have. It wasn’t even the privacy issues, although these gave many pause. It wasn’t so much the lack of any social features, or of cataloging features as basic as sorting your books. LibraryThing members were quick to dismiss it. A few tech bloggers saw an attack on LibraryThing. Last week Google introduced an interesting “My Library” feature, allowing people with Google accounts to list some of their books. Just as Google respects the robots.txt file, we’ll respect such a request. And Google can send us a note, and we’ll disable the bookmarklets. Ultimately, however, Google can put a stop to this. And because it takes place within a browser, it tends not to trigger machine-collection warnings. Making a bookmarklet distributes the work. The trick is that Google Book Search-like the rest of Google-has a system in place to stop machine queries.** The well-known Lib 2.0 blogger John Blyberg tried, as have others. Secretive and self-defeating? Seems like it to me.Įfforts have been made to collect Google IDs before.
